Sizzling grilled meat soaked in sauce, enjoyed with rice – Jingisukan (grilled lamb) is surely one of the highlights of a trip to Hokkaido.

There are many Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) restaurants in Hokkaido, but this time I'd like to introduce my favorite, "Yakiniku & Horumon Nishiki" in Biei.

This is a renowned restaurant where you can enjoy delicious Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) and plenty of fresh grilled offal at reasonable prices.

1. A yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurant right in front of Biei Station

Yakiniku Nishiki Biei

"Yakiniku Nishiki" is located in front of JR Biei Station. It's easily accessible on foot from the station. It's recommended to use the public parking lot (free) in front of the station.

They are only open for dinner from 5 PM. If you've been out and about all day and are feeling a little hungry, you can visit right when they open and enjoy yakiniku without the crowds. Alternatively, it's best to make a reservation by phone in advance.

Now, let's get straight to introducing our recommended menu items!

2. Trying out "Yakiniku Nishiki"! Introducing popular menu items.

Of course, the famous "hormone" (offal) is a must-try.

Yakiniku Nishiki Biei Horumon
Let's start with their specialty, "horumon" (offal). You can order it for the reasonable price of 480 yen per serving (100g). You can choose between salt or sauce for seasoning.

As is well known for the Kamifurano Pork from the neighboring town, the Biei-Furano area is famous for its pork products.

I'm so grateful that we can easily enjoy fresh offal! When you grill it on a net until the surface is crispy, the fat of the offal melts in your mouth.

Juicy "Pork Skirt Steak" that goes well with rice

"Buta Sagari" is a cut of pork from the diaphragm, obtained during the processing of the internal organs. It's a rare cut, with only about 250-300g available from one pig, but you can enjoy it for the incredibly low price of 550 yen per serving (100g).
It is characterized by being thicker and having a more tender texture than the nearby skirt steak.

When grilled, it transforms into a firm, springy texture, and with each bite, the perfect balance of fat and meaty flavor seeps out. Enjoying pork skirt steak with rice is truly a moment of bliss.

While the sauce is good, we recommend using salt to allow you to directly enjoy the freshness of the meat.

The exquisite "Genghis Khan" that will leave you addicted.

While it might not stand out as much on the menu because there are many offal dishes, my personal recommendation is the "Jingisukan (lamb shoulder loin)." It's available for 700 yen per serving (100g).

Compared to the typical Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), this is sliced thinly, like tongue. However, with just one bite, the well-absorbed sauce and unique flavor combine to create an exquisite taste that will have you reaching for more rice. It's also very satisfying.

The Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) is so delicious that I always order seconds whenever I visit. The Genghis Khan and vegetables also go together very well.

So we ate our fill of offal and lamb, and the bill came to less than 2,000 yen per person. Even without drinking alcohol, it was incredible value for money!

At this price, it's a place you can easily stop by while traveling. It's my top recommendation, so please give it a try!
