When people think of Hokkaido, many probably picture "vast nature and a multitude of animals."
In the midst of Hokkaido's unique natural beauty, there's an experiential farm where you can interact with animals, located in Kakuyama, Ebetsu City, right next to Sapporo.
Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm is about a 30-minute drive from the bustling city center of Sapporo, surrounded by skyscrapers. After passing through a gate at the end of a farm road lined with fields, a natural landscape unfolds before you. As you venture further into the farm, you'll be greeted by a variety of animals.

Final thoughts
1. An experiential farm that is very popular with families.
Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm is bustling with many families on holidays.
This farm is a hugely popular spot for children, offering a full day of fun with attractions such as the "Interaction Center" where they can feed and interact with animals, and "Dream House Children's Land" where they can play in treehouses and climb.
In addition, you can enjoy various other experiences, such as "horse riding" where you can ride large horses or small ponies, and "craft experiences" using the wool of sheep and alpacas that live within Earth Dream.
2. Interacting with animals
One of the most appealing experiences at Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm is interacting with the animals. Friendly animals will greet you everywhere on the farm.
When you think of a farm, many people probably picture horses, sheep, and goats. Of course, there are plenty of those animals, but one of the unique features of Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm is that it also has more familiar animals like dogs and cats.
Throughout the farm, you'll find dogs running around energetically and cats napping, creating a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.
3. Animals you can interact with at the petting zoo
At the petting zoo, you can feed various animals and even hold smaller ones, allowing for close interaction.
Why not take this opportunity to interact with animals that you don't usually get to see and enjoy the experience to your heart's content?
You can actually hold and interact with small animals such as rabbits and hedgehogs. There are staff members nearby who can teach you how to hold them, so you can gently pet them.
Just inside the entrance to the petting zoo, on the left, there was some kind of black animal sleeping.
If you look closely, it's a miniature pig. I wonder how many people have actually seen a miniature pig? It might seem a little scary at first, but if you pet it, it's very gentle and well-behaved.
There's a cat with the miniature pig. It might seem like a strange sight, but they're napping together peacefully without being afraid of each other.
To avoid startling the cats, gently stroke them instead of picking them up.
Further inside, we found goats and alpacas in an enclosure. They were very friendly and came close enough to touch us, so we could get close enough to hold out our hands.
There are goats outside the fence as well. When I first saw them, I was surprised, thinking they had escaped, but they were tied up in a spot outside with delicious green grass and munching away.
While you can see goats quite often in Hokkaido, at Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm, you can actually touch them.
They are in the passageway we are walking through, so please walk carefully.
4. "Dream House Children's Land" is extremely popular with children.
Dream House Kodomo no Kuni (Dream House Children's Land) is a hugely popular spot for children that is only open on weekends and holidays. Many families visit specifically for this attraction, and it is bustling with families on weekends and holidays.
Dream House Kodomo no Kuni is an indoor facility, which is one of the reasons for its popularity, as it allows children to play regardless of the weather.
You can climb treehouses, use hammocks and swings, climb nets, and get plenty of exercise!
5. We also sell raw alpaca and sheep wool!
You can also purchase wool from the alpacas and sheep that live within Earth Dream. Furthermore, if you make a reservation in advance, you can participate in a wool crafting experience, so why not give it a try?
While Hokkaido has many ranches, there aren't many facilities where you can actually experience crafting using raw wool.
This unique Hokkaido experience will surely become a wonderful travel memory. It might also be a good opportunity for children to do their summer vacation research projects.
6. When you get hungry, go to a restaurant.
If you get tired from playing, why not take a break at the food court?
You can enjoy dishes made with Tonden Farm's homemade sausages and bacon, as well as pork bowls made with "Earth Dream Pork" raised on their own farm.
Be sure to try the dishes that you can only eat at Earth Dream!
Final thoughts
So, what did you think? Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm is a unique Hokkaido experience farm where you can interact with many animals and have a variety of experiences.
At Earth Dream Kakuyama Farm, you can not only interact with animals, but also enjoy unique Hokkaido experiences that you wouldn't normally get to do, such as athletic activities at Dream House, horseback riding, and wool crafting.
Furthermore, it's easily accessible, just a 30-minute drive from downtown Sapporo, making it a recommended spot not only for locals but also for tourists who want to experience the true essence of Hokkaido!
