ランパス

This is the second time the "Lunch Pass" has been released in the Hakodate area. The "Lunch Pass" is a book that allows purchasers to eat any of the lunch menus listed in the book for just 500 yen, making it a great deal!

Even though it's priced at 500 yen, it would normally cost 700 or 800 yen, and some even over 1000 yen! Also, some restaurants accept it outside of lunchtime, so be sure to check.

The Lunch Pass costs 980 yen (excluding tax) per booklet. It can be used up to three times at each store and is valid for three months from the date of release. Due to its great value, many bookstores sold out on the first day of release.

The Hokkaido/Hakodate Lunch Passport 2017 is incredibly popular. We've picked out 5 restaurants from the 80 listed establishments to share with you.

1. Kamadondon, a restaurant specializing in kamameshi (rice cooked in a pot) and seafood bowls: "Bluefin Tuna Yukhoe Bowl"

Kamadodon

This restaurant is located on the way to Nanae, just before the intersection of National Route 5 and Prefectural Route 100, which is locally known as the Industrial Road. It used to be called "Creative Seafood Material Game," but changed to its current name in March 2017. The Lunch Pass menu is available for both lunch and dinner. Each menu is limited to 20 servings, and reservations are accepted. Reservations are highly recommended.

Kamadondon Yukhoe Don

The raw tuna yukhoe rice bowl comes with a poached egg on the side. Although it wasn't mentioned in the lunch pass, miso soup was also included.

The yukhoe donburi (raw beef rice bowl) is an exquisite dish that lets you savor the sweetness of the fat from the bluefin tuna. It's no surprise, coming from a restaurant directly operated by a bluefin tuna specialty shop. The yukhoe is well-seasoned, so it's delicious even without any additional toppings.

2. Cafe Time: "Spaghetti Napolitan Set"

Time and appearance

The shop's exterior is apparently designed to resemble the Orient Express. It certainly did look like a passenger car. Across the street from the shop is the NHK Hakodate Broadcasting Station. The interior is decorated primarily in red, with red checkered tablecloths. It has a classic atmosphere. It felt like an old-fashioned coffee shop.

Time Napolitan

What arrived was a nostalgic Neapolitan spaghetti, complete with shrimp. The plate also included potato salad, ham, and an orange for dessert. It came with soup and a choice of coffee or cola. The lunch pass menu is available until 18 PM on weekdays. There's no limited quantity, so it's also recommended for an early dinner.

3. wind Hanareimoon "One-plate Loco Moco style"

Hanarei Moon

Located in a residential area just a step away from the bustling Mihara shopping district lined with stores like Yamada Denki, Nitori, and Ito-Yokado, this shop sits on the first floor of a three-story apartment building. In addition to the cafe, they also sell miscellaneous goods that they sourced from Hawaii, making it fun just to browse. There's also an esthetic salon attached, so why not treat yourself to a relaxing soothe away your daily stresses?

Loco Moco

The lunch menu features a hamburger steak bowl topped with a fried egg, or a loco moco-style dish packed with spaghetti, fried chicken, and salad on one plate. It's quite filling. Water and coffee are self-serve and both are refillable. It's nice that the coffee is unlimited. Last orders are taken at 15:30 PM, so it's also suitable for late lunches.

4. Cafe Dining Caldo Calcio "Whimsical Peperoncino"

Cardocacho

This restaurant is run by a talented chef who will be competing in the "Kagome Napolitan Stadium 2017" held in Tokyo in mid-May 2017, with a dish called "Hakodate Ikanapolitan Black," which uses squid and squid ink. The exterior of the restaurant is red, the same color as the Italian flag, but the interior is decorated with white chairs and tables, making it very stylish.

Peperoncino

You can choose from three types of noodles: spaghetti (round noodles), linguine (thin flat noodles), and fettuccine (thick flat noodles), and there are also two flavors: peperoncino and Japanese style. This time I ordered the peperoncino. The ingredients were bamboo shoots and sakura shrimp. Apparently the ingredients change depending on the day. The pasta is made with fresh noodles, so you can enjoy a chewy texture.

5. Nepalese Restaurant Rani Kitchen "Rani Kitchen Set"

Rani Kitchen

This shop is located off National Route 227, which runs from Hakodate City through Hokuto City to Esashi Town, and then turns onto Prefectural Route 347. The exterior is green, so it should stand out, but it's set back from the road because there's a parking space in front of it, so it might be a little hard to find.

The shop staff appeared to be Nepalese, and there were Nepalese-themed goods on display in the shop.

Nepalese curry

There are two types of curry: spinach and vegetable. It comes with unlimited refills of naan bread. It's quite filling.

The curry wasn't very spicy, and the spinach curry had a rich flavor.

The vegetable curry had a mild flavor. It contained pumpkin, which made it different from Japanese curry. I also ordered a lassi for an extra charge; it was sweet and delicious.
