Autumn is the season for delicious apples.
The season when apples are at their best is also the season when apple pie is at its best.
Apple pie. Doesn't the very sound of it make you feel somehow comforted?
Sweetly stewed, slightly tart apples are stuffed into a dough kneaded with plenty of butter, and when baked in the oven, a delightful aroma fills the room.
Hokkaido, a major apple-producing region, cultivates many varieties of apples.
September through November is the peak harvest season.
This is the perfect season to enjoy comparing different apple varieties. As the weather gets a little cooler, apple pie is something you'll want to eat while relaxing in the warmth of your home.
Hokkaido, where a large amount of apples are harvested, has many apple pie specialty shops.
This time, we'll introduce some of the best apple pie specialty shops.

1 haa-mo

This store has two locations in Iwamizawa City.
Our first store is easily recognizable by its yellow building, situated in a vast landscape surrounded by fields and rice paddies.
It's a very small shop, but since it's a bright yellow shop standing alone in an area with no other buildings around, it shouldn't be too difficult to find.

In addition to apple pie, the menu also features seasonal items such as chiffon cake and fruit tarts.

There's also an eat-in area, so we recommend enjoying your freshly made food right there.
Eating apple pie surrounded by nature, such as mountains and fields, is a truly special experience.

The apples in this apple pie are just huge!!
The moment you receive the product from the store clerk, you feel its substantial weight in your hands.
When you bite into the crispy pastry, large chunks of apple spill out from the inside.
If you go at the right time, you can buy them fresh out of the oven, and the gooey texture of the freshly baked apples is so good you'll want to shout towards the nearby mountains.
The dough isn't too heavy, and it's not too sweet either. And the filling is simply apples.
Despite using so many apples and other fruits, the price is surprisingly low, ranging from 120 to 220 yen.

This is a cute shop and apple pie shop that you'll definitely want to stop by during your drive.
Our second store is located in the residential area of Shibun Honmachi, right next door.

2. Western-style Confectionery & Famous Sweets Nakaya

This is a well-known and extremely popular restaurant in Sunagawa City.
A sweet scent wafts even outside the shop.

Drawn in by the aroma, I entered the store and there it was, the apple pie I'd been looking for!!!!
The store also offers a wide variety of other items, including baked goods and cakes.
Among them, the most popular item is the apple pie, which attracts people who line up outside the store just for it.
I actually tried it.

First of all, the dough is incredibly light. You can tell they've used plenty of fresh butter. It smells wonderful too.

The apples inside are made to be on the sweeter side. The flavor is concentrated in the apples, and you can taste the sweetness of the apples with every bite.

There is no eat-in space inside the shop, but there is a lovely terrace outside where you can enjoy your purchases.

3 Pie Queen
This shop opened in July 2015 near Kita 18-jo Station on the Namboku Subway Line.
This is a sister store of Kaguraju, a famous apple pie specialty shop in Sapporo.

The shop's exterior has large glass windows, allowing you to see the entire interior, creating a very open atmosphere. The sign and lighting are also very cute.

As I was about to enter the shop, I noticed a blackboard next to the door.
This one's cute too.
You can eat in or take your food to go.

Their signature apple pie uses carefully selected apples, with the origin and variety being chosen according to the season.
They apparently insist on using ingredients from Hokkaido, including apples.
Upon tasting it, the dough was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.
The apples inside aren't too sweet, so even people who don't like sweet things should be able to enjoy it.
Above all, the combination of the dough and apples is absolutely fantastic. And there's a little bit of cinnamon as an accent.

A pie made with blueberries from Yoichi town and cream cheese from Machimura Farm. A very popular item.
In addition to apple pie, we have many other pies that make the most of seasonal fruits and ingredients.
You can also enjoy your meal with coffee or other drinks in the shop's eat-in area. The coffee and espresso are brewed in-house, so they are authentic and delicious.
