Kushiro, Hokkaido, has an average summer temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius.
Kushiro, with its cool summers and relatively little snow in winter, has been the number one destination in Hokkaido for long-term stays for seven consecutive years.
This time, we visited Kushiro Club, a cafe restaurant that is very popular as a place for long-term visitors to socialize.
In addition to delicious food, this restaurant also offers the opportunity to enjoy Kushiro's sunsets, evening glow, and romantic night views.
Let's get started with the introductions.

1. What is Kushiro Club?

"Kushiro Club" opened in May 2017.
The shop's name, "Kushiro Club," comes from Kushiro, the owner's hometown, and "Club" signifies a space where people with similar hobbies and ideas can gather, talk, and share time together.
Makoto Yushiro, a real estate consultant who has been involved in the development of large-scale facilities and urban planning throughout Japan, created this space with the desire to have a place where people could discuss urban development in Kushiro.

Where exactly is the Kushiro Club located?
It's located directly across from Kushiro Fisherman's Wharf MOO, near Nusamai Bridge, which is famous as a sunset viewing spot.
It's about a 2-minute walk from Nusamai Bridge. It's also easily accessible from hotels around the station.
The shop's entrance is on the road side, not the river side.

Kushiro Club is located on the second floor of this Bayside Building.
The landmark is a telephone booth.
Apparently, they started the shop after a chance encounter, but this building was originally the "East Hokkaido Japan-Soviet Friendship Trade Center" (a joint Japanese and Soviet trade center) which had been in use since 1977.
It was a building where the government held meetings and other gatherings.
Before the renovation, it had a red carpet and was used as a meeting room.

The historic building has been renovated and given new life, with the red carpeted floors replaced with wooden planks.
The Lenin statue, chairs, and floor, which were installed more than 40 years ago, incorporate some stones that are believed to have been used in ancient Roman buildings.
Also, be sure to check out the store's interior, which has a real sense of history!
2. Things to know before you visit! The style of Kushiro Club

Now, let's actually go inside the store. First, take off your shoes at the entrance on the first floor before going upstairs.
That's right. Kushiro Club is a cafe restaurant where you take off your shoes.

Going up to the second floor, you'll find a high-quality space with solid wood flooring, large windows overlooking the Kushiro River, and high ceilings.

The riverside view from the window is also fantastic!

Take off your shoes and you'll feel as relaxed as if you were at home or in a traditional Japanese inn. The natural feel of the solid wood and the plush carpet... your feet will be soothed from the soles of your feet.
The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, making it easy to relax and enjoy a lively conversation.
Apparently, it's not uncommon for customers who visit the shop to become friends with each other.

There are four different seating arrangements available.
The view from the window-side sofa seats is fantastic! The chairs are apparently the original ones that were used back then, but they've been reupholstered and renovated.
The plush, carpeted sofa gently cradles your legs.

From the windows of Kushiro Club, you can see not only the Kushiro River, but also tourist attractions such as Kushiro Fisherman's Wharf MOO and Nusamai Bridge.
The restaurant's interior is designed so that every seat offers a view. The ever-changing scenery, depending on the season and time of day, is another appealing feature. (Reservations for seating only are also accepted.)
3. Popular Menu Items
Let's introduce some of our most popular menu items.

Kushiro Club offers a variety of menus depending on the time of day, from lunch and cafe time to dinner.
Alcohol can be ordered from lunchtime onwards!

For lunch, the "Akan Pork Thick-Cut Steak" and "Akan Pork Chop" are popular choices.
Akan Pork is raised amidst the magnificent natural surroundings of Akan, and is characterized by its good balance of lean and fatty meat, resulting in healthy and tender meat.
The thick-cut steak is 3cm thick!

Pizza is especially popular with our regular customers.
On the day I visited for the interview, a regular local customer was ordering it.
And then...the treat after the meal is dessert! Our homemade "chocolate banana tart," "almond tart," and the "fondant au chocolat" with its gooey, spicy center are all very popular.

The popular "Hobbit's Sausage Platter" from Biei, the "Starry Sky Black Beef" brand from Shibetsu town, and "Grilled Ezo Deer Steak" are available during dinner time.

At Kushiro Club, you can enjoy dishes made primarily with local ingredients from Kushiro, Nemuro, and other areas.
*Menu items are subject to change.
For set courses, advance reservations are recommended.
They will create a custom menu for you based on your requests, including meat and fish.
I'd like to use it for special occasions like anniversaries.
4. Sunset and evening view from Kushiro Club

The sunset over Kushiro Port is considered one of the "world's three most beautiful sunsets."
You can see one of the world's three most beautiful sunsets from Kushiro Club.
Here's a YouTube video showing the sunset and evening glow as seen from the large windows of the Kushiro Club.

The sunset sky, painted in a multitude of colors from the horizon upwards, is so beautiful it feels as if you're in another dimension.
5. Enjoy the night view! Dinner in a prime location.

At night, the atmosphere completely changes, and the interior becomes an even more stylish space.
I had dinner at a sofa seat by the window.
I ordered the "Starry Sky Black Beef Rump Steak in a Skillet."

Hoshizora no Kurogyu (Starry Sky Black Cow) is a brand of beef from Shibetsu town, located near the Kushiro Marsh.
This is a crossbreed of Japanese Black and Holstein cattle, raised on pasture under a clear, starry sky.
It's juicy and has a great texture; with every bite, you can savor the natural flavor of the lean meat and the richness of the fat.

After filling up on delicious meat, enjoy a post-meal coffee (brown rice coffee).
"Brown rice coffee" is coffee made by roasting brown rice using only the heat from a kiln used for charcoal burning.
Apparently, it's completely caffeine-free.
It has the fragrant aroma and gentle flavor of brown rice, and a clean, refreshing finish.

From the large windows, you can see the fantastical, illuminated Kushiro Fisherman's Wharf MOO, reflected on the surface of the Kushiro River... The time spent amidst this beautiful night view unfolding before your eyes
Exceptional!
