The Niseko area, blessed with the magnificent natural beauty of Hokkaido, is a popular tourist destination that attracts many visitors not only from Japan but also from overseas.
At the foot of Mount Yotei, also known as Ezo Fuji, beautiful spring water flows, and the endless roads and vast potato fields are truly impressive.
This region boasts numerous accommodations, resorts, and activities, attracting many tourists seeking long-term stays. The Niseko area is a resort region where you can enjoy a relaxed pace of life typical of Hokkaido.
The Niseko area is home to many hidden gourmet spots.
Here, we've picked out Kyogoku Town, Makari Village, Kutchan Town, and Niseko Town from the Niseko area and will introduce some recommended gourmet spots.
I've included some hidden gems that I'd rather not share, but I hope you'll find this helpful when you visit as a tourist.
1. Meisui Udon Nonokasa
2. Restaurant "Maccalina"
3. Famous spring water tofu
4. Takano Coffee Shop

1. Meisui Udon Nonosan

Kyogoku Town is famous as a "village of spring water," and is characterized by the high-quality water that flows from Mount Yotei.
Near "Meisui Udon Nonokasa" is "Fukidashi Park," a popular tourist spot.
The shop, housed in a renovated old house, offers a pleasant atmosphere with classical background music playing.
The popular "Chikuwa and Egg Tempura Bukkake Udon" is a masterpiece that originated at "Kamatake," a famous restaurant in Osaka where the owner trained.
Because it's a popular restaurant, there may be a wait on holidays, but they'll call you on your cell phone so you can kill time at the nearby "Fukidashi Park."

2. Restaurant "Maccalina"

In Makari Village, at the foot of Mount Yotei, you'll find the leisurely pace of the auberge "Maccalina."
As the name "auberge" suggests, it has a small accommodation facility with four rooms attached to the restaurant.
When the G8 Summit was held in Toyako, Maccalina attracted attention when the first ladies from around the world had lunch there.
The course menu, which makes abundant use of vegetables from Makari and seafood from Hokkaido, is adorned with a variety of dishes that fully bring out the flavors of seasonal ingredients.
This is a very popular restaurant, so reservations are essential! Don't forget to book in advance!

3. Famous Water Tofu (Makari)

"Yusui no Sato Meisui Tofu" isn't a restaurant, but it's a spot you should definitely visit if you're in this area.
Here, we sell handmade tofu made with spring water from Mount Yotei.

We offer a wide variety of tofu, from unusual types like zaru tofu, edamame tofu, cheese tofu, and yam tofu, to fried tofu, donuts, and warabi mochi.

One of the great things about this store is that you can sample almost all of the products.

There are so many options to choose from, it can be hard to decide, but you're sure to find something you like.

4. Takano Coffee Shop

Takano Coffee Shop is a hidden gem of a cafe that serves the best coffee around Niseko.
There are many cafes around Niseko, but I think this one is the best, according to me as a coffee lover.
Located in a secluded spot near the Arishima Memorial Museum, the shop offers a cozy, retro, and tranquil atmosphere.

Although the shop is small, my recommended seat is the counter seat facing the window.
From there, Mount Yotei, also known as Ezo Fuji, stands majestically, like a picture framed in a frame.

All coffee served at Takano Coffee is specialty coffee.
To put it simply, specialty coffee refers to exceptionally delicious coffee.
While it may taste weaker than typical coffee, this coffee boasts rich acidity, aroma, and fruity characteristics that might surprise those who have only ever drunk regular coffee. The menu explains the flavor characteristics of each coffee, but it might be difficult to understand unless you're a coffee lover.
This is a shop where you should definitely try two cups to savor the truly flavorful coffee.
Why not enjoy the perfect cup of coffee while listening to the birds chirping and the rustling of the trees?

5. Takahashi Farm Niseko Milk Workshop
Image: Travel Photo
If you're looking for sweets in Niseko, I recommend Takahashi Farm's "Niseko Milk Workshop".
Several facilities are located on a vast site, and it gets very crowded on weekends.

My recommendations here are the "soft serve ice cream" and the "specialty cream puffs" available at the "Milk Workshop Main Store".
Our soft-serve ice cream is made with fresh milk squeezed every morning, resulting in a refreshing aftertaste that highlights the natural flavor of the milk.
Our special cream puffs are filled with cream only after an order is placed, resulting in a crispy pastry shell and a wonderfully smooth, creamy filling.

The "Milkkuchen" from the "Baumkuchen Workshop" across the street is also very delicious and makes a great souvenir.

Because Takahashi Farm is located on a small hill, Mount Yotei spreads out before you on clear days, making it a popular spot for taking photos.
Why not treat yourself to the luxury of enjoying sweets on a terrace on a sunny day?

6. Villa Lupicia

"Villa Lupicia," produced by the world-renowned tea specialist "Lupicia," is a boutique located in a resort area, selling processed meats, bread, prepared foods, and sweets.

This is a food resort that includes a restaurant featuring ingredients from Hokkaido.

In early November 2016, "Gallery & Curve," a complex consisting of a gallery showcasing the works of Masafumi Sawada, a Niseko-based artist who creates art using iron, and a wine cellar, is scheduled to open.
This is a delicious spot you should definitely visit when sightseeing or staying in Niseko.
