So far, I've introduced some of the tourist spots in the heart of Otaru that you can enjoy on a stroll. Next, let's venture a little further and introduce some areas along the coast.

・Otaru's morning market, "Rinyu Market"

When you think of morning markets in Hokkaido, the ones in Sapporo and Hakodate are famous, but did you know that Otaru also has a morning market?

Located at the very end of the "North Canal," on the north side of the Otaru Canal, is the Rinyu Market, about an 8-minute drive from Otaru Station.

Of the several markets in Otaru, this one opens the earliest at 4 AM. Around eight shops offer fresh seafood, vegetables, and fruits landed from Otaru Port and other locations.

HerringLocated about 15 minutes by car from Otaru city center, across from the fishing port of Shukutsu, where the Otaru Aquarium is located, is the restaurant, Minshuku Aotsuka Shokudo.

As it's a guesthouse, you can of course stay overnight, but during lunchtime in the tourist season, there are long lines! Many people, from locals to tourists, visit this restaurant in Otaru seeking delicious fish that "can only be found here."

6. [Be amazed by Otaru's night view!] Recommended sightseeing spots in Otaru: "Mountain Edition"

Finally, I'd like to introduce some of the most spectacular views of Otaru that you should definitely see if you're staying there.

- Night view from Tenguyama in Otaru

Are you familiar with the term "Hokkaido's Three Great Night Views"? The most famous night view in Hokkaido is the "Hakodate (Mount Hakodate) Night View," the "Sapporo Moiwa Mountain Night View" which offers a panoramic view of Sapporo, Hokkaido's largest city, and the third of the three great night views is the "Otaru Tenguyama Night View."

One of Hokkaido's three best night views: the night view from Tenguyama in Otaru.

Tenguyama Mountain is about an 8-minute ride on the Tenguyama Ropeway, which is a 10 to 15-minute drive from Otaru Station. The night view from there, with the coastline of Otaru Port and the lights illuminating the city, is a must-see.
