1. Enjoy spring flowers at "Flowerland Kamifurano"!

First, I'd like to recommend Flowerland Kamifurano. Spread across a vast 150,000 square meter site is a field of flowers. In the summer, lavender blooms everywhere, but from late spring, from May to the beginning of June, it is filled with spring flowers such as primroses and poppies. The site also has an "experience workshop," a "cafe," a "group restaurant," and a "greenhouse," where you can see lavender, pansies, and other flowers even in the still chilly early spring.
If you want to enjoy spring flowers, June is the best season. A ride on the "sightseeing tractor bus" around the flower fields takes about 10 minutes and will make you feel like you've wandered into a fairytale world.

Also, from mid-May through June, the workshop is offering a culinary experience called "Taste of the Season! Eat Asparagus Whole," where you can enjoy seasonal asparagus for 540 yen (tax included). Hokkaido's seasonal asparagus is so delicious, with its sweetness and tenderness that it will break your preconceived notions of what asparagus can be! Be sure to give it a try.

2. "The Garden of the Wind," which was the setting for a TV drama.

Next on my list of recommendations is "Kaze no Garden," located next to the New Furano Prince Hotel. If you check in at the New Furano Prince Hotel, they will provide transportation by car.
This garden was the setting for the television drama of the same name, which aired on the Fuji Television network in 2008. Over 450 varieties of flowers bloom here in every season.
I recommend taking a leisurely stroll while admiring spring flowers such as tulips and lilacs. The Corydalis ambigua, which can only be seen in spring, is very precious! Be sure to look for it.

After returning to the New Furano Prince Hotel from the Garden of the Wind, take a break at "Coffee Mori no Tokei," a coffee shop located a 5-minute walk from the hotel. This coffee shop was also featured in the Fuji TV drama "Yasashii Jikan" (Gentle Time).
In the drama, there was a memorable scene where a customer sat at the counter and ground their own coffee beans with a mill. Why not try recreating that scene by grinding your own coffee beans?

3. Furano Jam Garden is recommended for family trips with children.

If you're traveling with children, one spot you should definitely visit is Furano Jam Garden. Located in Furano village, surrounded by nature, it's a place where you can be soothed by the fresh greenery of spring. There's a "Jam Workshop" where you can buy jams made with Hokkaido-sourced ingredients and no additives or artificial colors, and a "Sweets Workshop" where you can buy original sweets.

And the Anpanman Shop is especially popular with families with children. In addition to having a wide selection of Anpanman goods, it also has a playroom and displays of animation cels from the TV show, making it irresistible for children who love Anpanman. There are also lots of Anpanman characters lined up in the garden.

4. Mysterious Blue: "Biei Blue Pond"

The main attraction of sightseeing in the Furano-Biei area is the unique scenery you can see, and among them, the "Blue Pond" in Biei is a must-see. The water's surface is a mystical blue, unlike anything you've ever seen before, and its beauty is so captivating that you'll find yourself gazing at it for hours. The parking lot opens in mid-April, but be aware that depending on the year, there may still be snow or the pond may be frozen, preventing it from appearing blue.

5. What is the weather like in the Furano-Biei area in spring? What kind of clothing is appropriate?

This time, we introduced some recommended spring spots in the Furano-Biei area. Since it's located in the center of Hokkaido, you might think it won't be as cold as the north, and many people might be wondering what to wear. What are the temperatures like in April, May, and June? What kind of clothes should you wear? You're probably wondering, so let's check it out.
Please refer to the table above. Both represent the average over the past 30 years. As you can see from the table, the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures is very large, more than 10 degrees Celsius. On warm days, a light long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirt will suffice, but on chilly days or in the mornings and evenings, a down jacket or fleece will be necessary.

Because the temperature fluctuates greatly, it's best to bring short-sleeved shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and a light jacket or cardigan.
Also, if you want to pack as lightly as possible, I recommend a coat with a removable liner. You can remove the liner and use it as a spring coat when it's warm, and then put the liner back on for warmth when it gets colder, which helps reduce the amount of clothing you need to bring.
Additionally, scarves and wraps in spring-like colors are convenient items to bring along, both for style and warmth.
Final thoughts
This guide summarizes recommended winter spots in the Furano-Biei area, along with information on the climate and appropriate clothing. While the Furano-Biei area experiences significant temperature fluctuations in spring, and many of the spots involve outdoor activities, be sure to dress warmly even in spring. Especially in April, minimum temperatures often drop below 4°C, so winter clothing is perfectly acceptable. Dress warmly and enjoy the beautiful flowers and the power of nature!
