First, let me introduce a coffee shop located very close to the heart of Sapporo!

1. Mingus Coffee

• Shop introduction
Mingus Coffee exterior
Located right next to Sapporo's Odori Park, at South 1 West 1. From the main street, take a narrow side street and head to the 7th floor of the Osawa Building, marked by "Kanako's Soup Curry Shop".

At first glance, it looks like a completely nondescript building (no offense!), but when you get off the elevator on the 7th floor...
Inside Mingus Coffee It's a shame the photos don't capture the sound, but the lively atmosphere of the shop is truly captivating!

tokumitsu-coffee-entrance
This coffee shop is located on the second floor of ODORI BISSE, a building facing Odori Park that also houses the headquarters of Hokuyo Bank, a regional bank in Hokkaido. They also have two other locations, one in the Maruyama area and another in Ishikari City, next to Sapporo. While this isn't their flagship store, its location in BISSE is the most convenient for a quick stop, so we're introducing this one here.

From the counter seats, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Odori Park, so on winter nights you can sip coffee while admiring the illuminations! The illuminations at Odori Park are held every year from late November until Christmas.

tokumitsu-coffee-view-snow-festivalThe interior is much more spacious than the entrance suggests, with roughly 30 seats.

At TOKUMITSU COFFEE, you can enjoy specialty coffee made with carefully selected beans. Their discerning eye and skill are so impressive that they've been called upon as consultants to help launch many cafes in the city.

tokumitsu-coffee-cupThis shop offers its original blend, "Sapporo Bisse Blend" (550 yen). It has a subtle acidity and bitterness, and a very refreshing aroma.

• Shop introduction

ease-cafe-entranceLocated about a 7-minute walk from Sapporo Station, ease café is tucked away on the first floor of the student union building. As soon as you open the door, you'll be greeted by the stylish trinkets placed throughout the shop.

ease-cafe-cup-and-pancakeEase Café is also famous for its food, but... believe it or not, the owner of this shop has the impressive achievement of winning the Hokkaido regional championship at the 2012 UCC Coffee Masters competition, hosted by UCC!

Therefore, the coffee brewed by the owner is, of course, superb. It pairs perfectly with the pancakes, so be sure to try them as a set when you order.

4. Ishi no Kura Gallery Ihayashi

• Shop introduction

hayashi-viewJust a three-minute walk from Sapporo Station, nestled quietly beside a cram school building, is a retro building steeped in history (said to date back to the Taisho era!). That's Ishi no Kura Gallery Ihayashi.

Hayashi-entranceAs it's a gallery cafe, the attached gallery displays and sells accessories and other items.
As for the cafe, even during the day, the interior is dimly lit and moody background music plays, making it truly a cafe for adults.

With its rather small setting of just 22 seats and its extremely retro interior, it's easy to feel like you've traveled back in time and become too relaxed.

Of course, the coffee is also top-notch. You can order it on its own and fully enjoy its depth and bitterness, but why not try ordering it as a set with the shop's recommended gateau chocolat?

・Ishi no Kura Gallery Ihayashi
Address: 1-3, Kita 8-jo Nishi 1-chome, Kita-ku, Sapporo City, Hokkaido
Nearest station: 7-minute walk from JR Sapporo Station
Opening hours: 11:30-17:00 (Last Order)
Closed: Every Monday and the first Tuesday of the month

5. Marumi Coffee

• Shop introduction

marumi-entranceMr. Goto, the owner of Marumi Coffee, is an incredibly skilled coffee maker, having placed third in the World Cup Tasting Championship.

This competition is like a sommelier competition for wine, where participants compete to discern the differences in aroma and taste of coffee and to identify high-quality beans. With beans and blends carefully selected by such a shop owner, it's no surprise that the coffee is delicious!

They also regularly hold coffee workshops, so attending one might just improve the taste of your own brewed coffee!

The shop's proud specialty, Marumi Blend, is also popular as a gift. The acidity and subtle sweetness provide a perfect balance. Even those who usually add sugar should definitely try Marumi Blend black.

Incidentally, their second store has opened near Nakajima Park. Speaking of Nakajima Park, it's home to Kitara, Hokkaido's premier concert hall. Why not stop by before a concert?

Also, you can enjoy takeout at "MARUMI COFFEE STAND," located in "sitatte Sapporo," which is directly connected to the underground pedestrian walkway (Chikaho)♪

6. Morihiko

morihiko-entrance
A hidden gem of a coffee shop beloved by Sapporo locals. Many people in Sapporo would probably answer "Morihiko" when asked about coffee. Locals describe it as having a "traditional Japanese house style" or "like something out of a Ghibli film," and its exterior alone has a unique atmosphere.
