So, what do you think? The means of transportation will vary depending on your purpose. Naturally, this is also true when trying to enjoy both Hakodate and Sapporo. First of all, if you want to focus on enjoying each of the two cities, I recommend taking a plane to save time. This is especially recommended if you have a clear idea of what you want to see.

On the other hand, if you want to enjoy various places with a group of people in a lively atmosphere, and prioritize making detours, there's no better option than owning your own car.

If you want to save money on transportation and spend it on food and sightseeing, then the express bus is the obvious choice.
Most of the vehicles have three rows of seats, ensuring privacy, and should offer a reasonably luxurious and comfortable experience.
Using an overnight bus will make your trip even more affordable (and if you arrive in Hakodate, we recommend visiting a hot spring bathhouse that opens early in the morning!).

Using JR trains would be the best way to enjoy a well-balanced experience in all aspects of life.
In some ways, it might seem the most expensive option, but it boasts excellent onboard facilities and in-car sales, as well as a unique charm that other modes of transportation lack.

Especially for small groups, renting a car in each city and using the rail-and-rental-car method will minimize exhaustion, allowing you to reach each tourist destination with energy.
