Siesta entrance

"Siesta Hakodate," which had its grand opening on April 22, 2017, is a multi-purpose complex located in the Goryokaku area, easily accessible by a single tram ride from Hakodate Station.

You can enjoy Hakodate's unique cuisine and find items you'll want to check out while traveling, making shopping a blast. There's also a free space where you can relax and look back at the photos you took that day.

Siesta Hakodate offers a variety of uses. Here's a new spot that you simply have to check out.

4. Summary

1. MUJI

Muji

MUJI offers not only stationery and general goods, but also food, furniture, and even homes. In Hakodate, it was previously a tenant in a department store in the area in front of Hakodate Station, but it has relocated and reopened in conjunction with the opening of Siesta Hakodate. Moreover, what was previously a single-floor store has expanded to a vast sales area of 2500 square meters spanning from the first to the third floor.

Plain Cafe

Also noteworthy is the simultaneous opening of Café & Meal MUJI on the first floor. This is the first Café & Meal MUJI location in the Hokkaido and Tohoku regions.

If you're visiting Hakodate from Hokkaido or the Tohoku region, why not stop by MUJI? The store is spacious with 60 seats and has a relaxed atmosphere. You can enjoy deli items, drinks, and desserts.

The baked pudding has a gentle flavor that will warm your heart. If you get tired from walking around the shop, please take a break.

2. G Square

G Square

The 4th floor is a free space called G Square. It has a kitchen area, a multi-purpose hall, and an event space, so events are sometimes held there.

An opening event was held on the opening day, April 22nd, and the following week, on the 30th, the venue was enlivened by stage performances of dance, theater, and other acts by performers active in the city. On May 21st, a live performance by the three-member male unit "Zacher Torte" was also held.

It's probably best to check the event information before you go.

gray

When talking about Hakodate City, you can't forget "GLAY." G Square is adorned with an incredibly cool bronze relief of them.

HISASHI's guitar is also on display. Behind the guitar is a cuckoo clock that operates every hour. And it plays a different song each time! If you've seen the outdoor concert, you should definitely check it out!

3. Siesta Kitchen

Siesta Kitchen

The basement is a gourmet floor called "Siesta Kitchen," featuring 11 shops, including famous establishments from Hakodate. You can buy souvenirs, or enjoy a meal in the eat-in area. Let me introduce some recommended shops.

cheese

"Rocco" is a shop that sells handmade Italian cheeses.

The cheeses are 100% fresh milk cheeses, and they offer a variety ranging from familiar brands to some you may have never heard of. There is an eat-in space right next door where you can enjoy cheese dishes.

The menu is irresistible, offering dishes that let you fully savor the deliciousness of cheese, such as crispy pizzas and cheese fondue. Besides cheese, they also have salami, which goes perfectly with drinks.

Marukatsu

Marukatsu Suisan is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Hakodate City. Their main business is selling fish.

The selection of ingredients, reflecting the dedication of a true professional, is unique to the port city of Hakodate. At Siesta Hakodate, you can enjoy sushi prepared by a chef behind the counter, without it being a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. The restaurant's atmosphere is also stylish and fashionable.

Temari Sushi

A menu item I recommend for women is the temari sushi. The plate contains 12 different bite-sized pieces of sushi. Each piece has a unique and carefully crafted flavor, making it nice to be able to try a little bit of each. However, it's quite a substantial portion!

food court

At Siesta Kitchen, each store has an eat-in space, but there are also free tables available. This means you can enjoy dishes brought from each store all at once.

For example, you could get pizza and salami from the fresh cheese shop Rocco, a salad from the deli SOL de CUCINA, or a hearty gapao rice dish and fried chicken from the Asian-style prepared food shop Gapaohan, and then a glass of wine from the liquor boutique Echizenya...you could do all that.

By the way, for dessert, I recommend Petit Merveille's bite-sized cheesecake, "Mer Cheese"!

3. Summary

So, in this article, I introduced Siesta Hakodate, which has opened in the Goryokaku area.

You can stock up on items at Muji and enjoy gourmet food at Siesta Kitchen in the basement. Of course, you can also come for the events at G Square, or simply enjoy the cuckoo clock. There are so many ways to enjoy it!

G Square also offers space rentals, so you could even hold an event there. If you're visiting Hakodate, why not stop by after sightseeing at Goryokaku?
