New Chitose Airport is the gateway to Hokkaido.
Many people want to buy souvenirs at the airport, but are overwhelmed by the sheer variety and don't know what to buy.
And that's no surprise, as the selection of souvenirs at New Chitose Airport is truly one of the largest in Japan!
With 180 stores offering sweets, food, and original Hokkaido merchandise, it's no exaggeration to call it a kind of theme park.
So, in this article, I'd like to introduce a selection of souvenirs that you should definitely buy at New Chitose Airport.
I hope this helps you plan ahead before you depart, so you can enjoy a fulfilling trip and shopping experience!

1. Lloyd's
First up is the renowned confectionery brand, Royce'.
They're famous for their raw chocolate made with fresh cream from Hokkaido, aren't they?
The most popular flavor is [Au Lait]. It's topped with cocoa powder, giving it a rich and deep flavor.
Its gentle milky flavor is its charm, and the sweetness melts smoothly in your mouth.
In addition to the standard [Au Lait], we also sell [Matcha] and [White] year-round, as well as seasonal limited-edition products!
With over 10 varieties to choose from, we encourage you to try and collect them all!
Another product that is becoming a staple at Royce' is potato chip chocolate.
These crispy, light potato chips are coated on one side with Royce's chocolate.
The combination of saltiness and sweetness is so addictive that you could eat it endlessly.
Beyond its brand recognition, it's a souvenir that's guaranteed to be a hit.
Both have a shelf life of one month from the date of manufacture, making them suitable as souvenirs for close friends and family.

2. Ryuzuki
Next, we'd like to introduce "Ryūgetsu," which has its main store in Obihiro.
The item you should buy here is the Baumkuchen Sanporoku.
This Baumkuchen, decorated with two colors of chocolate to resemble birch trees, is made with carefully selected ingredients from Hokkaido and is characterized by its moist texture and ease of eating.
It's great that it's already cut into 10 equal portions! Also, the mini-sized Sanpo Roku pieces are perfect for handing out as souvenirs.
They offer a variety of flavors, including plain, chocolate, and matcha (both available for a limited time).
For those who would like to go all the way to Obihiro to buy it but can't, please purchase it at this shop.
The sweetness isn't overwhelming, and it's easy to see why it's considered the pinnacle of moist Baumkuchen. I personally recommend it!

3. Kitakaro
Up until now, I've mainly featured sweet treats, but here's the first time I'm introducing something savory.
From Kitakaro, a shop that sells both Japanese and Western sweets, I would like to recommend Hokkaido Kaitaku Okaki.
Featuring seasonings made with seafood caught in Hokkaido, the lineup includes eight varieties, including limited-time flavors, available from Hakodate in the south to Esashi Town in Soya in the north.
What's amazing about these rice crackers is that they not only contain rice crackers, but also a variety of delicacies like squid, shrimp, and salmon, which are used to season them and serve as a palate cleanser.
The addictive flavor, going from rice crackers to a delicacy to more rice crackers, makes them perfect as a snack with alcoholic beverages.
These rice crackers, which take seven days to make, have a uniquely satisfying texture.
Why not give this a try as a souvenir for men who don't like sweets or fathers who enjoy alcohol?

4. HORI
Founded in 1947, "HORI" is a brand that many people have probably seen in souvenir shops outside of New Chitose Airport.
While there are various products in the lineup, the one we recommend for both beginners and repeat customers is the corn chocolate.
These corn chocolates, packaged in a retro yellow box, are available in packs of 10 (360 yen including tax).
These snacks, made with corn puffs from Hokkaido and coated in chocolate, are characterized by their crunchy texture.
The corn puffs have a delightful texture, and the white chocolate has a refined sweetness that balances it nicely, resulting in a surprisingly light texture that you'll enjoy.
I'm also happy that it has a shelf life of 4 months!
Since they are individually packaged, they are highly recommended as souvenirs for colleagues or classmates.

5. Morimoto
We're now halfway through our souvenir lineup, and next up is "Morimoto," based in Chitose.
Hokkaido Lab souvenir articleMr. F's Souvenir BookHowever, we are introducing it as the number one ranked item.
If you visit this place, you'll want to get your hands on Haskap Jewelry, a small cake from the north made with fresh haskap berries from Hokkaido.
These sweets, which were also ranked among the souvenirs chosen by active flight attendants in NIKKEI Plus One, are currently a hot souvenir.
This treat features haskap jam combined with buttercream, sandwiched between cookies, and edged with chocolate. Enjoy the rich trio of flavors.
It's rich in vitamins and iron, and has amazing effects on beauty!
The packaging, featuring a fairy illustration, is adorable and makes a great souvenir for women.

6. LeTAO
LeTAO is a Western-style confectionery shop with its main store in Otaru.
Many people may already be familiar with it, as it's often sold at special events in department stores across the country.
From LeTAO, I chose the Double Fromage.
Simply put, Double Fromage is a type of cheesecake, but the top layer is rare and the bottom layer is baked, allowing you to enjoy two flavors at once.
The mousse layer is rich and milky, while the baked layer has a fragrant cheese aroma; both are delicious even when enjoyed separately.
Furthermore, we're particular about the origin of our ingredients; for example, we use Italian mascarpone cheese in our mousse and Australian cream cheese in our baked goods.
A whole cake with a diameter of 12cm costs 1,728 yen, and since it needs to be kept frozen, it's perfect as a souvenir for yourself!

7. Kinotoya
Kinotoya has a history of over 30 years in Hokkaido, the kingdom of sweets.
Kinotoya opened its second store in the airport at the end of July this year, the New Chitose Airport Factory Store, which is based on the concept of "freshly made."
With three brands—cakes, apple pies, and butter sandwiches—this is truly a rising star for Kinotoya.
I especially recommend the butter sandwiches.
This butter sandwich uses the popular Hokkaido Milk Cookie Sapporo Agricultural College cookies. Inside, it's filled with fresh butter cream and finely chopped Hokkaido apples.
The cookies are baked fresh in our in-store bakery, so they have an unparalleled crispness!
The rich butter cream inside combined with the crisp apples creates a delightful sensation in your mouth.
Enjoy the premium feel of freshly made treats that you can only get here. If you love trying new things, why not give them a try?

8. Glico
Glico is a name that virtually every Japanese person knows.
Many of you might be wondering, "What kind of sweets are we talking about now?", but there's a shop run by Glico that's only available at New Chitose Airport. It's called "Caramel Kitchen".
It's literally a caramel specialty shop, but what's more, everything from caramel manufacturing to packaging is done right here in the store.
The sight of the caramel being cooked in a large copper pot is truly impressive, and because it's such a meticulously crafted product, only 300 pieces are produced each day.
The caramel biscuit product I would like you to try is the caramel biscuit itself.
A biscuit is placed beneath the soft caramel, resulting in a delightful combination of a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture and a crisp, crunchy bite.
With only one store in Japan, it has an undeniable sense of exclusivity, and the quality of the freshly made caramel is exceptional. It's sure to be a hit!
Buy some for your friends who like unusual things, or for yourself, and give it a try!

9. Chocolatier Masaru
"Chocolatier Massard" has an impressive name that sounds like something from a French patisserie.
That's no surprise, as the company was founded by Masaru Furuya, who was captivated by the taste of chocolate he encountered on a street corner in Paris.
If you're looking for a souvenir, I recommend Palette Sable, which is a crispy cookie coated in chocolate.
Featuring adorable prints, it's a feast for the eyes! The recipient is sure to feel happy.
The soft-serve ice cream and pain au chocolat sold in the store are also popular items.
You could also use these sweets to satisfy your hunger while waiting for your flight.

10. Biei Selected Fruits
The last souvenir I'd like to pick out that you should buy is "Biei Senka".
Based on the concept of a food showroom, we have a total of three stores, including one in Biei, one at New Chitose Airport, and one in Tokyo.
The must-buy item at New Chitose Airport is Biei's corn bread, which can only be found there.
Approximately 7% of the bread is made with sweet corn from Biei, allowing you to fully enjoy the sweetness of the corn.
It's so delicious that there are lines every day, and it sells out instantly as soon as it's baked. Plus, each person is limited to two boxes, making it a very rare bread.
Since the expiration date is the next day, we recommend sharing it with your family or friends.
Incidentally, there's also a rare bean bread (pictured on the right) that's only baked once a day at 8 AM, so if your flight schedule allows, be sure to grab one!
