Arte Piazza Bibai

What is Arte Piazza Bibai?

Arte Piazza Bibai is an outdoor sculpture art museum opened in 1992 in the city of Bibai, Hokkaido, where a coal mining once flourished. The name comes from the Italian words “arte” (art) and “piazza” (open space).

On the grounds, in addition to the display of roughly 40 carvings and bronze statues by the internationally recognized sculptor Kan Yasuda, there is Café Arte, a studio used as a workshop, a gallery, and so on. Also, the gymnasium used by the former Sakae Elementary School is used as an exhibition gallery and lecture hall.

In addition to the permanent display and exhibition, events, such as sculpture workshops using the same marble as used in the work of Kan Yasuda, are held. Please check the homepage for more details.
