5 Sweets Exclusive to New Chitose Airport

It's human nature to be strangely susceptible to the word "limited edition."

While there are many products exclusive to Hokkaido, this time I've focused my research on products available only at New Chitose Airport, specifically those that are available for takeout.

There are plenty of souvenirs exclusive to Hokkaido and New Chitose Airport, but some are "takeout only," making them difficult to carry around—meaning they're sweets you can only enjoy if you're at New Chitose Airport!

Why not try one as a souvenir of your trip?

1. Kitakaro Yumefusen

Kitakaro New Chitose Airport Limited Edition Cup Choux Yumefusen
First up is Kitakaro's cup puff, "Yumefusen" (Dream Balloon).
I'd like to introduce this to you first because it's my favorite after actually trying it!

Many people associate Kitakaro with Baumkuchen, but did you know that it was actually their cream puffs that first gained popularity and widespread recognition?
Kitakaro boasts a lineup of nine different cream puffs, and among them, the Yumefusen, available exclusively at New Chitose Airport, is a unique variety served in a cup.

The top of the choux pastry is covered in sweet fondant. It has a rich, milky flavor and is quite sweet.
The choux pastry is quite firm, and even poking it with the fork that came with the purchase doesn't easily break it.

Having no other choice, I picked up the cup and took a bite, only to find it filled to the brim with custard cream.
The dream balloon is filled to the brim with light and refreshing custard cream.
The milk flavor is prominent, and I was surprised to find such a refreshing custard cream!
There's plenty of it, so you can scoop it up with a spoon and enjoy it to your heart's content.

As you continue eating, you'll be even more surprised by the bottom part of the cream puff.
The texture is completely different from the hard top layer; it's chewy with a strong egg flavor, and the simple taste, reminiscent of the skin of an Imagawayaki (a type of Japanese sweet), is delicious.
Pay attention to the custard cream and the choux pastry at the bottom.

2. Kinotoya Blueberry Cheese Tart

There is always a line in front of Kinotoya.
Kinotoya has multiple stores mainly in Sapporo, including inside Sapporo Station and in department store basements.
Many people have probably seen this shop with rows and rows of small cheesecake tarts displayed in the shop window.

Kinotoya's signature sweet is the cheesecake tart, and a blueberry version is sold at New Chitose Airport.
Despite it being a weekday, there's always a line in front of the store.

The center of the cake is filled with blueberries. Let's eat!

The moment you put it in your mouth, you're hit with a strong, rich cheese flavor, but as you continue eating, you'll be surprised by the unexpectedly refreshing sweetness.
This one also has a light blueberry aroma with just the right amount of sweetness.
The crispy tart crust is a great accent; it's truly a perfect trinity!

3. Starbucks Coffee White Chocolate & Espresso

Even Starbucks Coffee (hereinafter referred to as Starbucks), the now-familiar coffee chain, has products that are exclusive to New Chitose Airport.

The menu item available exclusively at New Chitose Airport is a white chocolate drink topped with chocolate whipped cream.
Apparently, the "chocolate whipped cream" is an ingredient not found in other stores.

The limited-edition drinks include three types: hot and cold lattes, and a Frappuccino.

Take a sip and it's sweet!
It's a white chocolate-flavored drink with chocolate-flavored whipped cream, so of course it's sweet, but it's so sweet that it feels like it could instantly make all your fatigue disappear.
But strangely enough, it goes down smoothly and you can drink it even without water.

If you look closely at the cup, you'll see the word "welcome." I love how Starbucks writes messages on their cups.
There was even a photo spot next to the counter, making it a truly memorable drink.

As a side note, across the street there is a Royce's bakery (not exclusive to New Chitose Airport) and a cafe space, which is also recommended for a light lunch or afternoon tea.

4. KINOTOYA RINGO Hokkaido Apple Pie

The Kinotoya New Chitose Airport Factory Store, which opened in July inside New Chitose Airport, features three brands side-by-side: "THE CAKE," "KINOTOYA RINGO," and "Sapporo Agricultural College Premium."
There are limited-time menus available at both "KINOTOYA RINGO" and "Sapporo Agricultural College Premium".

"KINOTOYA RINGO" is, as the name suggests, a shop specializing in apple pies.
The limited-edition Hokkaido Apple Pie is a special item made with carefully selected ingredients from Hokkaido.

It's an apple pie with a long, narrow shape, like a dumpling. It's probably about 12 centimeters wide.
Oh, right, there are no forks or anything... so just bite into it.

The buttery pastry is filled with apple filling and custard cream in roughly a 1:1 ratio.
The juicy, fruity apple filling and custard are a perfect match!
It's a bit on the large side, so it's enough to share between two people.

5. Sapporo Agricultural College Sapporo Agricultural College Premium

We ended the night at Kinotoya.
When you think of butter sandwiches in Hokkaido, many people probably think of Rokkatei, but now a new star in the butter sandwich world has emerged from Kinotoya!
Sapporo Agricultural College Premium

This is a popular Hokkaido souvenir, Sapporo Agricultural College (cookies), filled with butter cream and apple filling.
It's sold right next to the apple pie I mentioned earlier.

The butter sandwiches and apples are delicious, of course, but the cookies are the best!

6. Conclusion

It's not a "sweets" item, so I won't go into detail about it this time, but there's another take-out gourmet item that's exclusive to New Chitose Airport.
This is Calbee Plus's "Freshly Fried Potato Chips Asparagus Bacon Flavor" from New Chitose Airport's 2nd floor.
I thought I might as well go for it, but my stomach just couldn't keep up, which was disappointing.
Since you're spending time at New Chitose Airport anyway, why not try to complete the collection? (lol)
