What is a "forest tent sauna"?
After sweating it out in the scorching hot tent sauna, head to a natural cold plunge pool.
Saunas can be enjoyed by women too!

In Shimokawa Town, Hokkaido, where forests cover 90% of the town's area, an event called "Forest Jam" will be held for two days, from Saturday, July 7th to Sunday, July 8th, 2018. This town is like a hidden paradise, located about a two-hour drive from Asahikawa Airport.
Mori Jam is a community-run event that started in 2013 with the concept of "everyone enjoying the blessings of the forest." Activities include holding a market in the forest and a treasure hunt related to the forest.
People who make handmade goods and prepare special meals will gather from all over Hokkaido and other regions for two days to enjoy the forest.

This year marks the 5th anniversary of Mori Jam, and new programs have been introduced. Among them, the "Forest Tent Sauna" stands out.
What is a "forest tent sauna"?
The forest tent sauna will be held on the riverbank, a short distance from the main venue of Mori Jam.

This tent sauna, directly imported from SAVOTTA in Finland, can accommodate up to 5 people. It has a very simple structure: a portable wood-burning stove is placed inside a heat-resistant tent, and firewood is added to heat the inside, creating a sauna-like environment.

This year's Mori Jam will feature the first-ever tent sauna. Starting with Mori Jam 2018, saunas will become available as an activity in Shimokawa Town and the northern Hokkaido area (additional charges apply for use).

After sweating it out in the scorching hot tent sauna, head to a natural cold plunge pool.
The best thing about a tent sauna is definitely the sense of freedom it offers!
While a regular sauna might conjure up an image of elderly men with their mouths pursed in a test of endurance, tent saunas are different.
Because the heat source is firewood, it warms you up gently from the core of your body. Even sauna lovers sometimes find that a wood-burning stove puts less strain on the body.
The act of pouring water onto sauna stones to generate steam and create heat is called löyly. When water is poured onto the stones, a sizzling sound echoes throughout the tent, further intensifying the heat.
Stepping out of the tent with a flushed body, I headed to the cool river. Lying there and listening to the babbling brook, the vastness of the blue sky above was simply breathtaking! Even if you don't like cold baths, just soaking a towel in water and cooling down your body will make you feel refreshed.

The alternating cycle of sauna and cold bath improves blood circulation, leaving both your mind and body refreshed. It's a new outdoor activity that allows you to refresh yourself while surrounded by natural scenery.
Saunas can be enjoyed by women too!
There are various theories about the effects of saunas and cold baths, but based on my own experience and the observations of women I know who enjoy saunas, some have reported improvements such as cured insomnia and regular menstrual cycles, suggesting that saunas have a regulating effect on the autonomic nervous system.

Of course, everyone's experience is different. There's no need to force yourself to stay in a scorching hot sauna for an extended period.
For those who don't usually sweat much, or for women who want to relax in nature while listening to the sounds of the stream or the wind, a tent sauna is also a great option.
It's perfectly fine to enter wearing sportswear. Just wipe off the sweat with a towel dampened with water and feel refreshed!

At "Mori Jam," we do have changing facilities available for those who decide to join us on the day. However, there is a limited number of these, so if you are even slightly interested, please bring your own swimsuit and a change of clothes.
This is the first time we're showcasing our tent sauna. Please come to "Mori Jam" to experience its charm for yourself!
