Shimokawa Town is located about an hour and a half's drive north from Asahikawa Station.
In this town, where 90% of the area is covered by forest, a new accommodation, training, and exchange facility called "Yui no Mori" opened on November 9, 2017!
This name, chosen from submissions across the country, embodies the hope that "in this town surrounded by forests, people will connect with each other and become even more prosperous."

"Yui no Mori" has a total of 22 guest rooms: 18 standard single rooms, 2 large single rooms, and 2 twin rooms. The large single rooms are spacious throughout, allowing for a comfortable stay. The twin rooms are located on the first floor and are barrier-free, making them easy to use for the elderly and people with disabilities.
Single rooms are 15.6㎡, large single rooms come in two types: 22.9㎡ and 23.2㎡, and twin rooms are 26.7㎡. Twin rooms can accommodate up to two people; if you are staying with more than two people, you will need to book an additional room.
Single room (5,500 yen per night)
All rooms are designed with soundproofing in mind, featuring double doors, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep for business travelers and those who need quiet to sleep.
Most of the wood used in the facility, including the walls, floors, and sliding doors, comes from Shimokawa Town. All of it is FSC® certified (FSC®C015134), a globally recognized certification. This means the origin of the wood—who cut it, where, and when—is known, making it environmentally friendly.
Perhaps because well-maintained wood is used throughout the facility, the entire building is enveloped in a gentle atmosphere, creating a space where you can truly relax and unwind.
Comfortable service and a delicious breakfast
Each room is fully equipped with amenities, including shampoo, body soap, a hairdryer, and towels. For those planning a long-term stay, there's also a convenient coin laundry available (200 yen per load). Detergent is free for everyone to use.

The coin laundry is on the first floor. Dryers cost 100 yen for 30 minutes.
A spacious and clean unit bathroom
Breakfast is included free of charge regardless of the room you stay in. You can enjoy bread made by Yanai Confectionery, a long-established confectionery shop in town, and boiled eggs from Abe Poultry Farm, which are characterized by their pale yellow yolks.

The building offers free Wi-Fi, and the common areas are open to non-guests as well. The aim is for it to be a place where people from both within and outside the town can interact. Therefore, in the future, it is planned to be developed into a place where people can casually drop by for a cup of coffee or something similar.
Walking around town is also highly recommended!

If you'd like to learn more about walking around town or activities during your stay, head to "Machiokoshi Center Komorebi," located diagonally across from "Yui no Mori."

"Komorebi," which houses the tourist association, is convenient for gathering information about walking around town and as a rest stop. It's brand new, having just opened in the fall of 2016, and has Wi-Fi, so you can spend your time there comfortably.
Also, along the national highway, about a 3-minute walk from "Komorebi," there are many shops lined up.

Here you'll find "Yanai Confectionery," a bakery specializing in sweets and bread, "Yuzuru-tei," an izakaya (Japanese pub), and "Apollo," a coffee shop and Western-style restaurant. There are also snack bars and yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) restaurants, so choosing a place to eat at night will be fun.

Each room also has a "Shimokawa Hungry Map" available. Please use it as a reference when choosing a place to eat lunch or dinner.
Afterword

Yamanaka, the manager of "Yui no Mori," says, "We want to create a system that will bring together all kinds of people at 'Yui no Mori' so that it can become a new landmark in the area."
Shimokawa Town is seeing an increasing number of visitors, not only business travelers but also those seeking to explore the hidden gems of Hokkaido. Who will gather at "Yui no Mori" in the future? New connections between people and the charm of the town may be forged here.
