Bihoro-touge

Bihoro Pass is a 525 m mountain pass, located in Hokkaido between Bihoro and Teshikaga. It is located in Akan National Park; from the observation deck you can overlook Akan mountains and Lake Kussharo, the biggest caldera lake in Japan. The views are spectacular and since there is no natural barrier to the wind, Lake Kussharo is a popular paragliding spot.  In spring and autumn at sunset, if you are lucky you may see so called "sea of clouds".
On the summit of the mountain you can find "Pass panorama mountain station" where you can try local specialties, such as ageimo (deep fried potato) and bamboo shoot ice cream.  In addition, there is a restaurant offering meals using Hokkaido seafood, such as crab noodles and crab tempura soba.  Please try it if you have a chance.

Access

Train: From Bihoro Station on Sekihoku Main Line, take Akan bus and get off at "Bihoro-touge" bus stop.
Car: 3 hours from Urahoro IC on Doto Expressway.
