Sapporo Ramen Restaurants

Ramen Mokuren

The first restaurant is “Ramen Mokuren” which is located west of downtown Sapporo and relatively close to Maruyama Park. It’s a small restaurant with seven to eight seats at the counter and two 4-person tables. Once you enter, the aroma of savory garlic will stimulate your appetite.
Ramen Mokuren

The most popular ramen at this restaurant is “miso ramen” (JPN 750 YEN≒USD 6.82), as pictured.

Fresh mizuna and green onions gives an accent to the texture. We recommend mixing it with ginger on top when you are halfway through, and then enjoy the change in the flavor of the broth.

Ramen Mokuren

The noodles are relatively thin and wavy for Sapporo ramen.

The refined broth with perfect richness and savoriness matches the noodles. The fresh-served dish contains lots of oil and it’s especially hot, so be cautious. Enjoying it in the cold winter makes it even more exceptional!
Just so you know, if you’re not a fan of oil, you can order it with “less oil”.

Soft chashu (sliced roasted pork) that melts away in your mouth also goes perfectly with the broth. It’s a complete dish made with the perfect noodles, broth, and flavors.

Yugeya

The next ramen shop, Yugeya, is located in Fushiko, situated close to Kariki IC on the Sasson Expressway. This is another small restaurant with seats at the counter and three 4-person tables.
Since the restaurant was full when we went in to cover it, we shared a table.

Yugeya

The photo is light miso ramen (JPN 700 YEN≒USD 6.38). Although the heavy ramen with pork back fat is popular, we picked this one since we like light flavors.

Yugeya

The noodles are medium thick wavy noodles at the perfect firmness.

The broth has deep flavors that let you enjoy the aroma of the miso. Its light flavors make it easy to eat.

This is fulfilling and well-boiled chashu.
